I don’t know about you, but I love getting into the homeschool rhythm! And as soon as that rhythm gets established, we start to get a little bit … bored. (This can’t just be me!) Whenever that happens, I like to shake things up a bit, just for a week. I’ve done this many ways (I guess we get bored a lot, lol!), so here are just a few of our favorites.
- Daily Themes. Example: Monday/Music, Tuesday/Sports, Wednesday/Books, Thursday/Baking, and Friday/FUN! You can easily mix it up and match themes to your children and their interests.
- Weekly Themes. Examples: Choose a county to study for a week … Feature a fairy tale or Bible story: read, watch, do a craft, act out the story … Charity week: cards for servicemen and women or veterans, shop for your local food pantry, drop off homemade treats to your police/fire station.
- Choose your Adventure. Example: Each day one of your children chooses and plans an outing with your help. We have always done free or low-cost outings (think libraries, beaches, hikes, playgrounds, ice cream). Kids love being “in charge” and learning to plan an outing is a fun like skill.
- Cancel School. Honestly, this is so simple, works so well as a reset and is seriously under-used! This has never back-fired on me, unless you count the time I extended our one week break to three weeks, just because. I love the flexibility of homeschooling!
Keep it simple (I am a no-prep/low-prep mom) or go all out! Your kids – and you – will be thankful for something new and exciting to look forward to each day. 😊
If you try any of these ideas, let me know!
