Encouragement “Asking for Help-Part Two”

Last week I talked about the importance of asking for help – but finding someone to ask can be a challenge all by itself!  Our struggles and worries as homeschool moms are hard for others to understand. The best advice I can offer is to seek help from someone you trust or a reputable source, such as  …

  • Personal support and advice … Nothing beats the personal advice from someone who has been there and done that. Seek out a homeschool mom friend or acquaintance and ask your questions!
  • Online blogs … there are many uplifting and encouraging homeschool blogs out there, including my own! Read what others have been through and find solutions to your problems all in the comfort of your own home.
  • Online support groups … these can be very helpful in building a sense of community, but I have to caution you that the information you receive is not always accurate. If you have questions about your state’s homeschooling requirements, it is best to go straight to your state’s independent homeschool organization.
  • Homeschool convention … these are virtual and in person. I have attended both and 100% recommend attending in person if you can. The connections made and the personal sharing of sorrows and triumphs cannot compare to a virtual event.
  • Homeschool coaching … obviously, I would love to help you through Homeschool Sunshine Coaching, but there are other options you can find online, too. The best coaches will be caring, judgment-free, and confidential, while offering individualized support and encouragement.
  • Homeschool books … I have a list of inspiring and educational homeschool books listed here. The trick is to sift through all the great ideas in the book and then choose just one or two ideas that will fit well with your family.

No matter where you turn for help, please remember that homeschooling – much like parenting – is hard. Take it easy on yourself. You are doing a great job!
