Homeschool Sunshine grew out of my desire to ease the worries of homeschooling moms – especially those with young children. I truly want to help you AND your child enjoy homeschooling!

My story
I am a former elementary teacher who transitioned to a stay-at-home mom and then a homeschooling mom for my two children in 2016. My oldest attended public school for two years, until life threw an unexpected move (and a few wrenches at us) and homeschooling became our new way of life! My public school background as a teacher and parent offers a unique perspective for parents making the switch from public school to homeschooling.
To be perfectly honest, it took me over a year to separate myself from the public school mindset and embrace homeschooling. Once I got my feet underneath me, I volunteered for my state homeschool organization, helping ease the worries of other homeschool moms. I found two things to be true. Number one, we homeschooling moms love our children. Number two, we homeschooling moms worry about everything!
My approach to education
In no particular order … I believe children are a gift from God. I believe in a gentle approach to education. I believe in reading good, wholesome books to children. I believe that all children are brilliant, but you have to give them time and freedom to let that brilliance shine and grow. I believe learning to read and write is developmental and should not be rushed. I believe childhood is something to be protected. I believe standardized tests can be helpful and I also believe that standardized test results should be taken with a grain of salt! How Coaching Helps
If you are struggling with finding a balance in your homeschool life, coaching may be the answer. I was truly overwhelmed with the amount of support other homeschool moms needed when I first started coaching. Granted, it was 2020 and the world had been turned upside down. But the need for support has not declined over the past several years. Homeschool Sunshine Coaching is unique because I am focused on helping you succeed. I am not pushing a curriculum, or a homeschool philosophy. I don’t use AI or ChatGPT in my responses. I do not use affiliate marketing. You will always receive genuine, thoughtful answers to all of your questions and confidential advice for your specific situation. (If you are having legal issues, please consult a lawyer or HSLDA.org, as I do not offer legal advice!) I use email as my coaching format for many reasons:
- Convenience – Email is available 24/7, which means our coaching sessions will always fit with your schedule. Get in touch anytime, day or night. No need to schedule an appointment that will most likely be interrupted. No need for child care. If your email is interrupted, save it or send it and continue it later. I will understand. Email is also convenient for me. I will respond within 24 hours whenever possible, and it helps to have time to think things through, gather resources, and offer my best tips and advice to you.
- Unlimited – All coaching packages offer unlimited emails during the time period you choose (1-month, 3-months, or 12-months). So, if you send me a three page email at 3am, but forgot to ask a question, send another email at your convenience. Also, unlimited emails offer me the freedom to ask you questions in order to offer the best support tailored just to you and your family.
- Confidential – All correspondence during coaching sessions is confidential. You will not see your name or your children’s names shared anywhere. I will not reference your struggles or triumphs without changing names and removing all identifying information from my writing. I will not discuss clients (you, your spouse, your children) with anyone. I use the same code of ethics as when I was a teacher (including mandatory reporting).
Getting Started
It can be scary to trust all your worries and struggles with a stranger, and I admit that it is much easier if you have a homeschool friend with whom you feel comfortable sharing the bad and the good of each day. But I also realize that not everyone has that friend, and not everyone is comfortable sharing the bad along with the good. I do not coach from a place of perfection, or know-it-allness (I made that word up.). I coach from a place of imperfection. I know what it’s like to have a child screaming and crying under the table, ripping up a math book. I know what it’s like to have an early reader and a very late reader. I know what it’s like to homeschool with no money, little support, and through FOUR moves in six years. My all-time favorite homeschool quote is: “We never said it was easy. We said it was worth it.” -Anonymous.
